Lyrics of Life

by

Greg Bruorton

Silence—not always golden;
The morning song birds,
Wind at the corner,
Strum of a guitar,
Distant rumble of a Harley
Bring meaning to life.

The cry of a newborn,
The hunting cry of an eagle, The soft swish of high grass As wind gives life.

A kitten’s purr,
A playful pup’s growl,
Rain on the roof,
A pebble’s plop in the still lake;
Violins...

A child’s laughter,
Crackling fire late at night,
Your heartbeat at my breast -
This is golden.

Cheaters and Snowballs

by

Greg Bruorton

So, you’ve met someone on the Internet

A Sir Galahad you can’t forget

All the wit and all that charm

You both shared, but ignored the harm.

Introductions gone, inhibitions came down,

You, the young thing and he wearing the crown.

And not long after, a secret rendezvous

Where warmth was explored into a love so true.

Ah, yes... you share a commonality; no one can know

You’re searching for meaning, he’s longing to sow.

The pain you have caused is magnified five-fold;

Loved ones on both sides have to be told.

The moments of ecstasy are diminished too soon,

As reality sets in with anguish at high-noon.

Plenty of tears are now part of us all;

Broken families and dreams have begun to fall.

There is no happy ending, just anguish and pain,

Cheating hearts faced with hollow promises again.

The sanctity of vows is the first to drown

As, you, my sister, so innocently found.

Cheaters and snowballs, I’ve heard one advise,

Are similar in momentum as they grow in size.

Blind to their path, but continuing their way,

Roll over the loved ones who also must pay.
